Job Description

An Automotive Technician will work in a repair garage or a car dealership to identify and repair electrical and mechanical faults affecting a vehicle. He is responsible for inspecting cars, vans, or motorcycles brought in for servicing or repairs by a customer. The candidate needs a strong mechanical background and relevant practical training. Find and diagnose faults using hand tools or a computer. advise customers on what repairs are needed, including cost. repair or replace faulty parts and carry out regular maintenance. test vehicles on the road to check repairs. He has to test vehicles on the road to check repairs check stock levels and update vehicle service records also he has to work with high voltage batteries if you work on hybrid or electric vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Automotive Technicians are responsible for the service, maintenance and repairing of vehicles placed under their care. They are responsible for identifying existing faults and detecting potential defects that could arise after further mileage. To fulfil these requirements, Automotive Technicians have a wide range of practical day-to-day duties, such as:

  • Liaising with customers to establish the problem in the vehicle
  • Inspecting vehicles to find faults
  • Updating vehicle log books and providing appropriate paperwork to customers
  • Evaluating costs and giving price estimates to customers for repairs
  • Using computer software to diagnose defects in the vehicle
